14th January, 2017: Makar Sankranti (also known as Poush Sankranti or Poush Parbon, lohri, pongal, Bhogali Bihu etc. in different parts of the country ) refers to a specific solar day in the Hindu calendar and a festival in reverence to deity Surya (sun) that is observed in January every year. In our community pre sankranti night is celebrated as mera-meri, here in Delhi it is celebrated as Holika Dahan. I wanted to offer a beautiful gift of traditional pithas to my beautiful daughter on Sankranti day, so while making pithas during night hours, me hubby and baby also took part in holika dahan, that made her introduced to a traditional practice indicating removal of darkness. Next morning I presented traditional pithas to my baby and also to hubby. The list included Narkel naru, khirer naru, khirer sondesh, sada tiler naru, kalo tiler naru, malpua, doodh puli, Lobongo Latika, gokul pithe, aloor pithe, Chyandra Puli, chanar pithe, hridoy haran, dudh puli , golap pithe. We were invited to join a community lunch in our society & after that we visited crossriver mall where again we had loads of fun there.
