First Shasthi

31st May, 2017: This first Aranya Shasthi of Pragya's life..Aranya Shasthi is also known as Aranya Gauri Vratam in Andhra Pradesh, Vindhya Vasini Durga Puja in North Indian states specially Chattisgrarh area. In Bengal it is famous as Jamai Shasthi. As per legend, once there was a married woman, wh used to steal food and blamed it on a cat. To take revenge, the cat stole all her children  and placed them in a temple dedicated to Shasti. Finally, she worshiped the Goddess along her cat, and finally got all her babies back. Shasthi is actually the goddess of  fertility. Most  Shashthi's roots can be traced to Hindu folk traditions. References to this goddess appear in Hindu scriptures as early as 8th and 9th century BCE, in which she is associated with children as well as the Hindu war-god Skanda or Kartikeya. Early references consider her a foster-mother of Skanda, but in later texts she is identified with Skanda's consort, Devasena. Here we celebrated first Shasthi of her with fruits, traditional fan, ghoter jol, and nirmalya. Some moments are as follows
